Spring 2026 registration for our recreation soccer programs will open very soon.
Before we flip the switch on a new season, however, PVSC is thrilled to announce an exciting change to our Youth Intramural (U7-U9) program. Traditionally, this particular program has had players competing in a 6v6 format — 5 field players and 1 goalkeeper.
To better align with U.S. Soccer guidelines — and what we regard as a fundamentally better approach to player development and experience — we are updating the program’s format to 4v4 without goalkeepers. What this means for regular-season matches:
- Playing fields will be adjusted to 35 yards x 25 yards.
- Goal sizes will be 6 feet x 4 feet.
- 4 10-minute quarters with a 5-minute halftime.
- Maximum of 8 players per team/roster.
- Kick-ins for any balls played out of bounds.
- Goals may only be scored from the attacking half.
While we are still working out some of the finer details and rules, PVSC is confident that this core change will result in a plethora of benefits: more time on the ball, additional goal-scoring opportunities, quicker play, and an overall better (and more fun!) experience for our players. We also believe that this is a more development-first and player-first approach to the sport for these particular age groups, where young athletes are learning to become comfortable on the pitch and fall in love with the game.
We hope you’re as excited for these changes as we are! There will be plenty of more information on this in the near future (including a complete listing of official rules and modifications), especially for volunteer coaches. In the meantime, don’t forget to subscribe to our site for future news and updates — and for our official announcement, in a few days, regarding the opening of spring 2026 program registration.
